As a build up to the annual commemoration of Kenya Defence Forces Day on October 14th, Soldiers from Kabete Barracks visited Tumshangilie Mtoto Children’s home in Kibagare Slums, Loresho on 12th October 2018.
KDF soldiers from Kabete Barracks had the opportunity to mingle and have fun with 250 children currently being administered in the Home. The enthusiastic children had the rare moment to interact with KDF personnel, learn about the military and share their life experiences.
During his speech, Officer In charge of Kabete Barracks soldiers, Major Jeremiah Leakono told the administration and children that this was an opportunity for Kabete Barracks to reach out to the population to join them in honouring fallen KDF soldiers. “As a children’s Home, we have also come here to encourage all of you to pursue your dreams in life and urge you to take keen interest in the education this great institution is taking you through”, said Major Leakono.
Mr Japheth Njenga, Director of the home, thanked KDF soldiers present for their kind gesture and was marvelled at KDF’s initiative to reach out to the less privileged in the society. He also reminded the young children that KDF is a profession like any other and that they should consider joining in future. “On behalf of Tumshangilieni we are proud of your work in protecting the general public and we wish you well as you undertake your challenging job.
